Growing up, Emily was first exposed to the idea of cake decorating from her mom, who would create birthday cakes for her and her sisters every year. She attended Mentor public schools and graduated from Mentor High in 2006. After high school, Emily studied art and design at the University of Michigan.
During the summer before her junior year, she began working at a local bakery washing dishes and returned the following summer as a decorator. Over the next 14 years, she continued learning new decorating techniques and perfecting her skills until she became the lead wedding cake and custom cake decorator.
Throughout this time, Emily began making cakes for friends and family from her home. As word began to spread, her husband and father decided to turn a section of the basement into her own "cake kitchen". Concord Cake Company LLC was established in October 2019 and is now an insured bakery.
Emily has also been working for the past 11 years at a wholesale bakery that provides cakes and cheesecakes to local restaurants and coffee shops and she continues to work there one day a week.
